The award-winning City of LaGrange, Georgia (population approx. 32,800) is conducting a national search for its first-ever Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This newly established executive role presents a unique opportunity for an accomplished public-sector finance professional to shape the City’s financial strategy and long-term sustainability.
Reporting directly to the City Manager, the CFO will oversee all financial operations of the City, including governmental functions and complex municipal utility systems such as electric, natural gas, water, wastewater, telecommunications, and sanitation. The City operates with a FY 2026 adopted budget of approximately $164 million and a workforce of 460 employees across eight departments. The CFO will serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, ensuring fiscal integrity, strong internal controls, and proactive financial planning.
The ideal candidate will be a proven municipal finance leader with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in municipal, county, or state financial management, including at least two years in a senior leadership or executive role such as CFO, Finance Director, Budget Director, or Assistant Finance Director. Experience with municipal enterprise utilities is strongly preferred. Candidates with private sector experience are also encouraged to apply.
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration from an accredited institution is required; a master’s degree is preferred. Professional certifications such as CPA, CPFO, CGFO, or similar credentials are highly desirable. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in GAAP, GASB standards, GFOA best practices, budgeting, forecasting, debt management, and financial reporting, along with strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
